Subcompact SUVs offer an experience that makes them as luxurious and fun to drive as they are economical. Ford is no different, and the EcoSport is by far the smallest subcompact SUV they offer. It offers a fine blend of utility, personality, and inside space.

Technically, it's a subcompact crossover SUV, but drivers across the Hilton Head area from Hardeeville to Beaufort and Port Royal, SC, and even Savannah, GA, appreciate its personality and pep. Check out this 2021 Ford EcoSport review from O.C. Welch Ford.

Ford EcoSport Overview

The 2021 model year gets a mild refresh with some features like a power driver seat, cargo cover, and package tray available at lower trim levels or as standard features where before they were only add-ons. It also gets a few minor tweaks to its styling for a refreshed look. It's available in four trim levels-the base S, the mid-range SE, the style-oriented SES, and the range-topping Titanium.

The base model is powered by a 3-cylinder, 1.0-liter engine that gets 123 horsepower, but at the SE level when you opt for all-wheel drive, you get a more powerful 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that nets you 166 horsepower. Either way, you'll get a 6-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional on all but the SES trim, which gets it as standard.

Technology and Features

At the base level, you'll get all the essential technology you need to enjoy the drive to the fullest: a 6-speaker sound system with dual USB charge ports, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and cruise control. Most of the advanced technology comes at the SE level, where you get an 8-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration, GPS navigation, and satellite radio. You also get features like automatic climate control, push-button start, keyless entry, heated seats, and parking sensors.

From there, you can add additional technology via options packages, or step up in trim level for features like a heated steering wheel, power seats, heated mirrors, automatic wipers, auto-dim mirrors, and a premium sound system by Bang & Olufsen with nine speakers. Touches to personalize your vehicle like black wheels, metallic accents, and the like are also available.

Storage and Space

Behind the back seats, you'll get 20.9 cubic feet of space in this SUV. When you fold down the back seats, you'll get up to 50 cubic feet of space, which is impressive for a crossover SUV of this size. The tailgate is also side-hinged and opens like a door, which can save space in tight parking situations or when loading curbside. Pockets in the door and a deep center console offer additional space for small-item storage in the cabin.
