MAXIMUM TOWING CAPACITY

The first question you probably ask yourself when you buy or lease an SUV is, “How many seats do I need?” If you need plenty of space for your family, grandparents, the kids’ friends, or carpooling to football practice, the 2025 Expedition and the Tahoe are well matched.
The Expedition and the Tahoe are available as 3-row SUVs with seating for up to eight passengers. With every available seat in use, you’ll find these vehicles are ideal as people movers.
Don’t need quite that much passenger space? The Expedition is also available as a 2-row SUV. The base trim, the Expedition XL STX, seats five people across two rows. While you can always fold the third row in the Tahoe, no 2-row option is available for the Chevy.
The Ford Expedition is also available in MAX configurations, which gives you more space inside the cabin. To see what we mean, let’s take a look at their maximum cargo capacities below:
Ford Expedition MAX | Chevy Tahoe | |
---|---|---|
Cargo Volume Behind First Row | 121.5 cubic feet | 122.9 cubic feet |
Max Cargo Volume Behind Second Row | 79.6 cubic feet | 72.6 cubic feet |
Max Cargo Volume Behind Third Row | 36 cubic feet | 25.5 cubic feet |
Although the Tahoe slightly edges out the Expedition in terms of maximum cargo space, you’ll find more space available in the trunk and behind the second row in the Ford.

It’s a fast-paced world out there. You need technology to keep up, and the Ford Expedition and the Chevrolet Tahoe provide immersive infotainment systems for that purpose.
The standard Ford SYNC® 4 and the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 systems share many of the same features. For instance, we’re sure you’ll love Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® compatibility, standard in both vehicles and an easy way to connect to your apps!
You may find the Ford’s infotainment setup to be more comprehensive, though, as it comes standard with built-in navigation! This feature is available with an upgrade on the Tahoe.
You’ll find a larger touchscreen in the Expedition. With a 12-inch center stack, the display in the Ford is larger than the Tahoe’s standard 8-inch display and its available 10.2-inch touchscreen, which makes viewing maps easier.

Do you feel in command of your drive? With a large SUV, it helps to have a powerful motor to power you forward, especially when you have a trailer in tow or need to rapidly reach highway speeds. The 2025 Expedition and the Tahoe are powerful, with the Ford SUV taking the lead.
With the High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost® V6, expect up to 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque in the Ford Expedition. It’s an advantage over the Chevy Tahoe, which peaks at 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque when equipped with its available 6.2L V8 engine.
The additional horsepower and torque in the Ford mean you can experience a thrilling ride on all your expeditions.
More engine power also means more towing power. The Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds when properly equipped, while the Tahoe tops out at 8,400 pounds. While you can easily tow a waterski boat or a lightweight camper trailer with either SUV, the Expedition confidently adds a large boat or a 2-horse trailer to the mix.
